One To Watch - Joe Richards

Morning guys, how are we? I've just been reading the Business of Fashion and stumbled upon an up and coming fashion designer Joe Richards. Currently mentored by fashion consultant Yasmin Sewell, this young London based designer has worked at the likes of Céline and Dior. 

His design aesthetic combines simplicity and functionality, combined with a masculine edge. His SS14 collection was inspired by the style and sophistication of Lee Miller and Greta Garbo, with a strong emphasis on the shirt. 

Like myself, Richard's also collects archival garments as reference pieces.

Richard's experience within the industry clearly translates in his debut collections showing his understanding of building a collection which is commercially viable while still maintaining a strong identity.
There is so much potential within this brand, let's see what AW15 brings.

The Day Before Dior

• Forty dresses in the line up, not even one is complete at this stage
• The atelier atmosphere is said to be tranquil

When I previously worked at 'Viktor & Rolf' the atelier was much like that of Dior's but on a far smaller scale. When sketches were handed over to the pattern makers it was incredible to see them begin constructing the garments. I value that time, it was fascinating. I was like a child in a sweet shop.
