The Vogue Festival 2013

 

Last Saturday I attended 'The Vogue Festival 2013', and came away feeling uplifted. Tickets sold out in an hour of being issued despite each talk being between £30 - £45. The venue was the artistic Southbank centre, which was amplified with oversized editorial shoots.

 

I went to the discussion 'So...you want to be a fashion designer?', which is a slight clique considering thats what I do. I was plesantly suprised by J W Anderson's maturity and honesty. It's always good to hear how solid the London fashion scene is, and the support which surrounds it including the BFC & CFE schemes.

 

It was great to see the four designers passion for their trade, and thankfully praising their teams hard work and commitment. After all, thats how four collections a year 2XMain/2XPre are feasible.

Vogue Festival

Tickets booked for the Vogue Festival. I'm going to the discussion with J W Anderson, Erdem Moralioglu, Jonathan Saunders and Mary Katrantzou. All of whom are offering their views on what it takes to launch a career in Fashion. I can't wait!

ERDEM - Fashion Fringe Road Show

This evening, I attended the discussion between legendary fashion writer Colin McDowell and fashion designer Erdem Moralioglu organised as part of the Fashion Fringe Roadshow. Erdem Moralioglu's eponymous label combines unique print techniques, colour and optimism. 

The talk was really inspiring giving a brief history of Erdem's childhood and strong bond between his twin sister. He then spoke about his time at 'The Royal College', London studying for his MA which he found hugely rewarding and creative. He then moved to NY working as an Assistant of an Assistant...of an Assistant Designer at DVF, spoken with wit and charm. 

Erdem was encouraged to apply to the prestigious Fashion Fringe competition in 2005, receiving first place which enabled him to put his creative talent into a real business. Seven years on his business is flourishing, stocked nationwide, predominately produced in Great Britain. 

In 2010, Erdem was announced BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund Winner, the prize is hoped to take his business to the next level. I feel hugely inspired, especially after being part of the Fashion Fringe semi finals for two consecutive years.
