Fall 2015 Menswear Overview

Although I am a womenswear designer I am always drawn to menswear. Whether that is due to the intrinsic attention to detail, finishings, linear aspect who knows. So far the collections that I most relate to are Louis Vuitton, Loewe and Lemaire. Each show shows classicism but with new found energy, I put this down to the creative minds behind these brands. Which include Kim jones, J.W. Anderson and Christopher Lemaire.

My Picks - Chloé Pre-Fall 15 RTW

Pre-Fall collections have started to be released. This season Waight Keller showcases an offbeat romanticism heavily inspired by Kate Bush. Shaggy furs and carpet tapestries were layered back with soft poet sleeves and antiqued military hardware.

Alaïa

On my recent trip to Paris I visited the Palais Galliera to see the Azzendine Alaia exhibition. It was a well considered selection of Alaia's timeless designs. The room above showcased his tailored garments with impeccably cut jackets featuring interesting seam and dart details. The transparent plastic mannequins were barely visible, allowing the dresses to be seen from every angle without distraction. 

A beautifully displayed exhibition.

Fashion Insiders' Guide

After a great weekend in Paris I can highly recommend the book above to be a helpful guide to all things cool and quirky. Written by Carole Sabas, Vogue Paris's NY correspondent.

These books have everything you need to know if travelling with work or socially. It is written from a professional perspective and is a great insight into the life of such a highly regarded correspondent such as Sabas.

The books are beautifully illustrated, Paris by Caroline Andrieu and NY by Bernadette Pascua, with covers featuring original prints by designer Calla Haynes.

Louis Vuitton names Nicolas Ghesquière as Creative Director

I must admit I am surprised. After I read Nicolas's interview in System magazine earlier this year, I assumed he wouldn't work for a large fashion house again. Today, a statement has confirmed speculation that Nicolas Ghesquiére has indeed accepted the position of Creative Director at Louis Vuitton, effective immediately.

I've just been for dinner with some friends and said I will be contacting the LVMH company immediately to see if there are any design positions, to work under a man of his caliber would be incredible. 

I am looking forward to seeing his interpretation of the brand. His first collection will showcase next March.

PFW Street Style

After a busy month, the show is over so to speak and what a season it has been! The last few days have been the most exciting for myself, due to shows such as Chloé & Stella. Clothes every woman wants to wear. Sad news about Marc Jacobs departing Louis Vuitton, I really liked his final show, especially with the initial denim looks. I didn't realise he had held the Creative position for 16years, such a long stint. 

Anyway guys, I must go to sleep, up bright and early for a range planning meeting. Then finally my partner is back from a work trip so we finally get a evening together.
Date night is consisting of dinner and then the cinema, we're such old romantics.

One to Watch - JUUN.J

Although you may all be familiar with the work of JUUN.J, I still wished to do a quick post especially as his latest mens collection has such great shirt silhouettes. It felt rude not too.

So take a look, since graduating from ESMOD Seoul in 1992, he went on to gain a wealth of experience at prestigious fashion houses before launching his own label. Fast forward a few years and now he is showing in Paris at Men's fashion week to great acclaim. His aesthetic is dubbed, 'Street Tailoring'...it fits perfectly.

Sophie Hulme

 

Sophie Hulme is best known for her armoured leather totes which are now stocked internationally. Her A/W12 collection has caught my eye focusing on outerwear & knit with masculine & feminine influences. There is an emphasis on hardware, detailing & texture including rich surfaces of mohair, cashmere & goat skin. All garments have a contemporary twist.

 

Actually the other month when I was in Paris I saw the shirt in Colette from the collection. It features the playful dinosaur lace which I absolutely love! Buy it HERE:
